Highland and Islands team shoot Shetland 2017


On behalf of the rest of the teams that competed at this year’s annual competition I would like to thank all the members of the Shetland Clay target Club and their sponsors, Ness Engineering, Scottish Sea Farms, Sumburgh Hotel, Shetland Power Tools and  Nortech Marine in supporting  and helping all the shooters. We would also like to thank the ladies from the club for feeding us all on the shoot days

Day one Friday saw the majority of shooter arriving by plane to Shetland and after a quick pit stop for ammunition at Ewan Johnson –Shooting Supplies we arrived at the Club to a welcoming cup of tea sandwiches and home baking (thanks Ladies) and did a few rounds of A.B.T & D.T.L practices pity the practise scores did not count for me. Most of us where staying in to the Shetland Hotel which was warm and served a lovely supper.

Day two Saturday was a day of heavy showers and very windy, and for some of the Harries team was a start of a long day after traveling by Ferry from Aberdeen overnight. Team Harries started the A.B.T competition and the day was won by Team Shetland first on best four scores with a 331 followed  by Team Benbecula on a 322 Team Deephaven 275 and Team Harris with a 236.High Gun for the day was young Ross Work after a 25 bird shoot off with the Benbecula team Captain Donald MacInnes both sitting on 87 kills  The teams were treated to a free bus and meal at a lovely little restaurant in  Scalloway called The Cornerstone, where we were treated  to a three course meal and good craic. Thanks again to the sponsors.



Day Three started with Team Deephaven shooting the D.T.L, a better day with a moderate wind and lots of sun. The day was won by Team Benbecula on best four scores 475, Team Shetland 385 Team Harris 347 and team Deephaven on 343. For high gun it was a three way shot off with John Laurenson, Darren Leslie and Ross Work. It was won by John Laurenson after a 25 bird shoot off

So for the weekend it was Team Shetland that were worthy winners on 1461 runners up Team Benbecula on 1438 Deephaven on 1250 and Harris on 1186. High Gun over the two days was Ross Work on 374 2nd John Laurenson on a 372 and 3rd Donald MacInnes with a 369





The Captain’s Cup went to Donald MacInnes of Team Benbecula congratulations.
